The Central Bank of Syria announced on May 31 that it had extended the deadline for citizens to exchange their old pounds for the country’s new currency by an additional 30 days, effective from July 1.

The new currency entered circulation on January 1. The redenomination involved converting every old S£100 to a new S£1. New banknotes feature designs of roses, wheat, olives, oranges and other agricultural symbols for which Syria is known. The old notes depicted Syria’s ousted ruler Bashar al-Assad
