Silvana Tenreyro has been appointed as the International Monetary Fund’s new chief economist, the institution said in a statement on July 7.
Tenreyro will take up her role as economic counsellor and director of the research department on August 10. Her appointment follows the departure of Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas, who stepped down as IMF chief economist on July 1 to return to academia.
