Lesetja Kganyago, South African Reserve Bank

South African Reserve Bank (Sarb) governor Lesetja Kganyago used a recent speech to outline a wary stance on several technological developments.

Kganyago noted the central banking community was wrestling with technological changes, namely fintech products like stablecoins and artificial intelligence. In remarks delivered in Pretoria to mark the central bank’s 105th year, he said such changes “present opportunities but also threats”.

He said AI will “transform how we work by making large datasets
