Cash acceptance has risen in the eurozone over the past two years, new survey data from the European Central Bank finds. But the central bank warns cash use is still at risk.

In a statement published today (August 13), the ECB said 92% of businesses with physical points of sale accepted cash in the second half of 2025. This represents a two percentage point increase from 2024, suggesting that the acceptance of cash among firms isn’t shrinking, though it remains uneven across the eurozone.
