Javier Milei, president of Argentina
President Javier Milei has defended his proposed reform of Argentina’s central bank by arguing that the institution has historically failed to tackle inflation.
In an opinion piece in newspaper Clarín on July 26, Milei said the record of the Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA) since its founding in 1935 “makes the debate about whether or not a central bank should exist unavoidable, and if so, under what rules it should operate”.
Argentina’s president has proposed a new charter for the central bank
